Getting a Carer's Card

Parents of children with disability can apply for a Carer’s Card.

The Carer Card is a card program created by the Victorian Government in an effort to recognise the amazing and unpaid work carers do for their community. The cards gives you a wide range of discounts and benefits from various business, including discounted public transport fares.

You’re eligible if you are a resident of Victoria and are either a primary or foster/kinship/respite carer for a person with a disability, severe medical condition, mental illness or frail aged.

The best part about this card is that you don’t have to be on the Carer’s Allowance (through Centrelink) to apply – though it is a much faster process if you are. You can just download the application form online and have your GP or other related health professional fill out a section of the form.

It is absolutely worth the hassle of applying this card – it had several discounts to start with but now the Carer Card shares the same discounts as a Seniors Card! This change has extended what’s on offer considerably.
